SOME recycling centres could be closed as part of a shake-up.

Hampshire County Council has launched a review of the county’s 24 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

People are being urged to have their say as part of a consultation.

Options being considered are reviewing the number, location and opening times of the centres.

Measures could be introduced to reduce the amount of trade waste wrongly disposed at the centres.

The centres could also start accepting waste and recyclables from small local businesses for a fee.

Councillor Sean Woodward, who is in charge of environment at Hampshire County Council, said: ‘We’ve looked carefully at how residents are using HWRCs, the frequency of use and the type of waste disposed. We have options that would either save money or generate income to offset costs, to ensure the service is sustainable in the long term.’

The consultation ends on August 22nd.
