THEY are known for making some of the best environmentally-friendly fertiliser on the planet.
But that’s just one of the reasons these alpacas are being welcomed to Havant Goes Greener – a week-long celebration of ways to make the world a greener place to live in.
Baron and Dakota were taken to Havant Park by their owner Peta Ives, from Dunreyth Farm, in West Sussex to meet the team behind the green extravaganza which begins June 18th.
Mrs Ives said: ‘We’re looking forward to being part of the green week at the family fair.
‘The alpacas produce manure which is very sought-after and also very sustainable.
‘It’s the perfect fit for the green fair.’
Environmentally-friendly events will be happening across Havant borough including walks, cycle rides and bird watching.
There will be talks from experts on subjects including bee keeping, reducing energy bills and saving money, and keeping bikes in good order.
And there will be a session on how to grow your own fruit and veg, hosted by The News gardening guru Brian Kidd. One of the highlights for many will be a workshop at 2pm on the opening day at Emsworth Community Centre on how to save 10 per cent on petrol bills through greener driving.
Jacquie Penrose, from Havant Transition Network, is one of the organisers.
She said: ‘I’m looking forward to the opening night at The Spring because there will be a series of lively talks and discussions followed by a comedy devised for Havant Goes Greener called Bottled.
‘It’s been devised by SOOP theatre and it’s a humorous look at the life of a plastic bottle.’
There will be 60 stall holders at the family fair on June 23rd in Havant Park. All events, excluding the opening night, are free.
