  • Solutions based research we don’t just look for problems, we find credible alternatives.

Havant Friends of the Earth

Havant Friends of the Earth is part of a network of 8 Friends of the Earth groups in Hampshire and 200 across the country. Havant Friends of the Earth campaigns on local and national environmental issues that affect the Havant Borough and East Hampshire.

What issues does the group campaign on

Since becoming a group in 2002 Havant Friends of the Earth has worked closely with local residents, voluntary groups. NGO’s and statutory bodies to promote healthier natural and built environments throughout Havant.

Some recent successes

  • Successfully opposed unsustainable green field developments in Havant
  • Lobbied politicians for greener policies locally and nationally
  • Led the campaign resulting in the decision by Hampshire County Council to make the county GM Free
  • Organised and partnered with Havant Transition Network, Havant Borough Council to create the first ever Havant Goes Greener, consisting of a fun packed week of environmental themed events for all the family.

What can I do?

There are many ways in which one person can make a difference.  Examples include writing letters and articles to the papers, joining recycling schemes, visiting schools and colleges, joining street events to publicise specific campaigns and helping to raise money.

How much time will it take?

Most people have more than enough to do nowadays. Havant Friends of the Earth meets twice monthly for a couple of hours in central Havant to discuss local issues and plan events. We also try to attend local fairs etc to distribute leaflets and encourage new members.
