Havant FOE Newsletter - November 2021

Do try and support the big COP26 rally and march for climate justice on Saturday 6th November, starting from 12.00 in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth. Bring your friends and ideally placards although we’ll have a few.

It’s really vital that we put pressure on the world leaders meeting in Glasgow and push them to take meaningful action to cut emissions and ensure a just transition to a greener world

On Saturday, people from Havant will be meeting in the corner of Guildhall Square near the steps up to the library.  There will be lots of short speeches, a chance to learn songs, then a march up through Commercial Road from 1.00. Then more contributions from local groups afterwards.

On Friday 5th also from 12.00 in Guildhall Square, there’s another rally linked to the schools strikes. So why not get to both.

The Portsmouth event is one of hundreds taking place around the world calling for climate justice. You can see the full list of demands here https://cop26coalition.org/demands/

You can find out more on the COP26 Coalition website https://cop26coalition.org/

You can also see details of the People’s Summit, which is a huge programme of event taking place throughout the conference with loads online.

Portsmouth has a great programme of climate-related events while COP26 is taking place. Check out the details on https://portsmouthclimatefestival.org/

Find out why offsetting is not the solution and what real climate action could look like

FOE’s new report shines a light on how the world’s biggest polluters are using offsetting to avoid reducing their emissions.

Offsetting means companies like Total and Heathrow get to carry on with business as usual (meaning: continue to wreck the climate…) while deceiving the public – and halting any real progress.
