Increases in public transport fares

Havant FOE has joined a national campaign to oppose massive increases in public transport fares. Beginning in January 2012 the government plans a 28% hike in bus and train fares over the following 4 years. Campaigners say that England already has the highest fares in Europe.

Ray Cobbett from Havant and East Hants FOE says

“Big increases makes everybody a loser”. “Its bad for business because it deters people from jobs in cities, for passengers facing reduced services and no seats and for the environment as people take to their cars”

Havant FOE launched a local petition at the weekend Water Festival which over 200 people signed. Havant commuters will now be asked to back the petition to David Cameron and Nick Clegg urging them to peg fares and focus on offering a fairer deal for all public transport users.
