FOE meets to set campaign priorities for Hampshire

Hampshire Networking day at the Crown Hotel, Emsworth on Saturday 17th March 2012

Clean energy and bees headed the agenda when representatives from Hampshire’s Friends of the Earth Network met in Emsworth recently. Buoyed up by a series of wins against the government’s decision to reduce solar panel subsidies, FOE plans to step up the pressure to secure cleaner energy sourcing.

The group had an update on the Navitus project, a major wind farm off the Hampshire and Dorset coasts. When complete up to 300 turbines could deliver 12 mega watts of power the Grid. But there are concerns with the routing of the cables from the farm near the New Forest National Park to nearby Fawley power station.

Turning to bees, Friends of the Earth plans to join campaigners in other organisations pressing for action to reverse the potentially disastrous decline in bee populations. Action is needed to protect existing habitats and create new ones by planting of wild flowers and trees in towns and cities.
