Havant FOE Newsletter - November 2022

Help with saving energy and greening your home

This is a very confusing area with lots of different schemes offering advice and financial help so we have invited Nick Sebley from the Portsmouth Climate Board and Rachel Mitchell from Green Box Associates to talk us through some of the help available.

This will be on Zoom on Wednesday 9th November at 7pm

COP27

The crucial UN climate talks are taking place in Egypt in November and Havant Climate Alliance is joining with other local groups for an international day of action on 12th November at noon in Guildhall Square in Portsmouth.

There’ll be a rally, a march and stalls about relevant campaigns

Groups are calling for

  • socially just solutions to the climate and cost-of-living crises
  • a just transition to environmentally sustainable jobs and economies
  • real funding, debt cancellation and reparations for Global South countries and communities least responsible for, but most harshly affected by, loss and damage caused by climate change

A bleak new UN assessment sees ‘no credible pathway’ to keep the rise in global temperatures below the key threshold of 1.5C. We’ve experienced a year of climate-related disasters and broken temperature records.

COP27 brings together more than 200 governments and will focus on three main areas:

  • reducing emissions
  • helping countries prepare for and deal with climate change
  • securing technical support and funding for developing countries for the above

There will also be themed days on issues including gender, agriculture and biodiversity.

This email shares details of local events and activities that you can participate in from home or in our area during the COP27 conference.

Telling those in power that tackling the climate crisis is important to you is a positive thing to do. We can use our voices and actions to demand change.

Havant’s Local Plan

Havant Borough Council has a consultation out on its plan for the future and HCA members are working out a group response as well individual ones. The more people who do this and make a case for greener policies, the better.

You can find all the details plus the dates for local exhibitions here
